FILMMAKER KENNEDY DUNNING EMPHASIZES AFRICAN AMERICAN EMPOWERMENT

“I started realizing how visual humans are, like we learn from images,” said Dunning. “I wanted to take that responsibility in creating complex and accurate stories that truly reflect specifically the black female experience. I wanted to change the world to make it a better place for black women.”

Selected as one of three recipients for the first every Smooth Jazz 101/100 and Chevrolet HBCU Scholarship 2022 announced by Davis Broadcasting. Recipients were chosen based on outstanding academic achievement, service leadership, and knowledge.
Interview with The Black Women Film Network discussing my film, “Woody Spike Stuck in the Spring”
Selected as an honorable mention at the 2022 Black Women Film Network (Short Film Festival). First ever student film selected. The film is a critique of the male gaze and an ode to the Black female southern oppositional gaze.

Winner of BronzeLens Creators Scholarship (2022)
BronzeLens Film Festival Creators Scholarship Committee selected four students to receive monetary scholarship awards as the first cohort of BronzeLens Creators Scholars. I wrote an essay discussing why I was a viable candidate and how I visualized the scholarship adding value to my academic and professional life.
Kennedy Dunning Captures First Place for her Film at MACRO X Beats
Spelman highlighted me on their official website to discuss my first place pitch for my feature film, The Hallway, at the 3rd Annual HBCU Summit presented by MACRO and Beats by Dre. The film follows four Black girls coming of age in their predominantly white town. Through unapologetic expression, these girls learn what it means to be young, Black, and free.
Atlanta Links Student Film Festival Takes Off With Spelman College
On April 3, 2022, the Atlanta(GA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated in partnership with The Spelman College Entertainment Summit, proudly presented The Green Screen Project 2022 Film Festival. My short film “How Hair You!” won Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Production Value, Best Story, and Audience Choice.
